Information about Alicante Airport and the flights to and from Alicante

Alicante International Airport is located in one of the most up and coming areas of the Mediterranean coast, providing superb business and economic opportunities to the Costa Blanca area and is now the main airport serving the Costa Blanca holiday resorts.

Over the last few years new facilities and services have been added to counter the demands of the more than six million passengers who now use this airport for business or pleasure.

Back in 1996 the airport's terminal was totally revamped to be able to accommodate up to 7 million passengers per year. The capacity of the airport's car park was also increased to cater for a maximum volume of 4,200 passengers during peak times.

The airport itself has a single runway, built to cope with a maximum stated capacity of 30 operations per hour. However, the main airfield is equipped with state of the art radar procedures and could actually handle a sustained volume of traffic of up to 40 operations at peak time. This means that the present runway would have a sufficient capacity to handle in the region of 90,000 aircraft operations per year which is estimated to be reached by the year 2015.

At the current time, in terms of the volume of passengers that pass through Alicante airport, it ranks seventh within the overall Spanish airport network. In the year 2003 it passed the 8 million passengers mark, up 16.9 per cent on the 2002 figure.
