Hotel Sacristia in Tarifa Review of the hotel
The hotel Sacristia in Tarifa is a small boutique hotel located in the heart of the old town Tarifa just to the entrance to the Costa de la Luz. Following is a review of the hotel Sacristia which has been put together as a result of my wife and I staying at the hotel on the night of the 16 April 2005. Having arrived in Tarifa late afternoon the next thing was to try and locate the hotel. We had printed off a map by using the street finder on the Terra website located at the Callejero section of their website. The only problem was that we did not know Tarifa very well so even looking at the streets on the map did not really indicate where we needed to go, coupled with the fact that you cannot drive up every street in Tarifa. Where is the hotel Sacristia in Tarifa old town? Once we found the hotel Sacristia we kicked ourselves as it was very central and we must have driven past the street at least six times without even noticing. So here is pointer as to how to find the hotel Sacristia. If you are travelling by car beware, there are very few parking spaces in the old town itself. We found the best option was to park in the free public car park just around the corner from the port, opposite the back of the big castle / fort. Once parked up we walked around the corner to the old town. As you enter the old town in the same direction as the traffic has to follow, you keep walkng towards the large church. Before you get to the church you will see the Hotel Misiana on your left. Go past this hotel and about 20 yards on the other side of the road you will see a pharmacy. Just past the pharmacy is a road called Calle San Donato. Take this right and in front of you is the hotel Sacristia. (Please note you cannot drive up this street). A review of the hotel Sacristia As you enter the hotel Sacristia you are immediately in a small bar area with a reception desk in front of you. There is a small boutique / shop on your left selling an interesting range of ethnic wares, dress jewellery and designer clothes all at very reasonable prices (I should know my wife purchased a T-shirt and necklace). The layout of the reception area and the front bar is typical of Tarifa. It was funky and the atmosphere chilled with chillout music playing quietly in the background. We checked in very easily and were escorted to our room just at the top of the stairs on the first floor. The entrance door to the room was quite low so if you are tall, mind your head. As we entered the room we were pleasantly surprised. The room was small but cute and the main feature was the bed that was draped in net curtains which gave it a chilled yet romantic ambience. There was a small bathroom in the room with a shower, toilet and sink. The room was very comfortable and had everything you could need for a short stay. The bar and lounge at the hotel Sacristia was laid out to perfection. There was a main bar in front of reception, a seating area directly in front in a tiny courtyard style and a lounge to the right. It was the perfect setting to sit back relax and have a beer or two. Although we had other plans for the evening (a party at the Hotel Misiana) we did have a glance at the menu on our way out. Our opinion was that it was imaginative and well put together. The other thing we noticed was that there was live entertainment arranged for the evening. We got back to the hotel Sacristia at around 2am and there were still people sitting around drinking and chilling out to the music playing quietly in the background. Unfortunately we were in no fit state to take in the ambience are retired for the night. After a very comfortable nights sleep we went down for breakfast at around 10am, having been advised the night before that breakfast is from 8 in the morning until whenever (within reason). In fact when we checked out at just gone 12 noon there were people still having breakfast which was a great site to see and very different from some of the hotel chains that expect you to have finished breakfast by 10.30. Summary of the hotel Sacristia in Tarifa Overall I would highly recommend the hotel Sacristia. It was comfortable and the service could not be faulted. It's location in the heart of the old town Tarifa made it the perfect choice to explore the delights of Tarifa. When we arrived home we were certainly relaxed and very chilled having enjoyed a delightful stay. The Hotel Sacristia
Getting to Tarifa If travelling by car to Tarifa from the Costa del Sol you take either the N340 / A7 highway or the AP7 toll road. Keep heading for Algeciras on the N340 / A7. Once past Algeciras you head for Cadiz and just follow the road past some wind farms to your right. After about 20 minutes you will start to head back down and will see the sea in front of you. Before the bottom there is a left turn for Tarifa, take this road and just head for Casco Antiguo (old town). If coming from the Seville direction again you just stay on the N340 coast road and take the Tarifa turning at the end of the Costa de la Luz. Travelling time from Marbella to Tarifa was 1 hour. The nearest airports for Tarifa are Gibraltar airport, Malaga airport, Seville airport or Jerez airport.
