Information about Madrid Airport and the flights to and from Madrid

The airport has three terminals which are located next to each other and are linked by corridors and moving walkways. The airport is fairly spacious and can be quite exhausting moving from one section to another. In order to compensate for this there is a transfer bus service for those passengers changing flights and terminals.

Terminal 1 - Madrid International Airport

Terminal 1 is where most international flights embark and disembark. It is by far the largest of the three terminals and offers many facilities such as restaurants and bars as well as car hire services.

Terminal 2 - Madrid Airport

Terminal 2 is used for the majority of domestic flights although Iberia use it for some European flights as does Air Europa.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is again for Iberia domestic flights and Iberia / Air Nostrum run their regional service from this terminal.

How to get to Madrid Airport

By Car - From central Madrid and M-30 highway access is via the A-2 or via the N-II (highway to Barcelona). The airport exit is 12 km.
From the M-40 highway access is from exit 3, access via the A10 is from exit 9, or via the N-100. Both go direct to airport terminals.
To make life easier the terminals have been colour coded on signs approaching the airport: Terminal 1 is orange, Terminal 2 is green and Terminal 3 is red.

By Taxi - There are many taxi ranks located around the city centre and you should allow at least 30 minutes journey time. This will vary according to the traffic conditions and the time of day. You should ask your hotel and make enquires as to the conditions before you depart. The estimated cost of a taxi from the city centre to the airport should be between 15 and 20 euros.

By Train - The Madrid Metro service links the city centre with the airport. There is currently no direct link from the main Spanish rail network to the airport. Using the Metro will involve two transfers. From the city you take Line 4 to Mar de Cristal. The airport connection is from Mar de Cristal on Line number 8. Trains run everyday between the hours of 6 am and 2 am.
The airport Metro station is located in Terminal 2 on the connecting corridor to Parking area 2.

By Bus - The airport bus services (Route 89) depart from the Plaza de Colon underground bus station from 04:45 am until 01:30 am. They operate every 15 minutes until 06:45, then every 10 minutes between 06:45 and 23:30. After 23:30 they operate every 20 or 30 minutes.
