Information about Malaga Airport and the flights to and from Malaga (AGP)

Malaga Airport is situated just outside of the city centre of Malaga on the Costa del Sol with easy access from the main N340 / A7 highway. Travelling times by car from Marbella or Puerto Banus are about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic conditions. From Fuengirola the journey should take about 20 to 25 minutes and from Nerja (east of Malaga) it should take around 40 minutes.

Currently there are major works being conducted at Malaga Airport with the building of a brand new terminal. When complete this will virtually double the number of flights in and out of Malaga Airport. However, at the moment the works do cause some disruption in getting in and out of the airport, especially by road.

Our advice is to leave a little extra time to get to the airport. Off peak 20 to 30 minutes should be plenty but at peak times maybe give yourself an extra hour. It is better to be early than miss your flight.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 - Malaga International Airport

Terminals 1 and 2 are in adjoining buildings and are connected internally.

Terminal 3 - Malaga Airport

Terminal 3 is located in a different building to Terminals 1 and 2.

How to get to and from Malaga Airport

By Car - From the Marballa area take the N340 / A7 highway and follow until you see the sign for Malaga Airport just after the highway reduces from 3 to 2 lanes. At various stages of the N340 / A7 you can choose to take the AP7 (toll road), which is a much quieter road. The toll road will merge with the N340 again just after Fuengirola. Tolls vary at different times of the year and are dependent upon where you join it.
From the East of Malaga take the N340 and stay on it until you see the signs for the airport exit.

By Taxi - All towns have taxi ranks and the cost will obviously depend upon where you are travelling from. As a guide you should expect to pay around 70 to 75 euros from Marbella. At the airport itself there is a taxi rank just outside of the arrivals terminal.

By Bus - There are many buses than run to and from Malaga Airport to many different towns of the Costa del Sol. If you are travelling to a smaller village or town you may have to change at one of the bus stations.

By Rental Car - Most car rental companies at Malaga Airport are either within the airport or just outside it. For those that are outside they all provide a courtesy bus service.

By Train - There is a train station at Malaga Airport which runs from Fuengirola and Arroyo de la Miel. The train also runs through to Malaga city centre and the RENFE station where you can connect to Madrid, Sevilla and other cities in Spain.

Malaga Airport Technical Information

Facilities at Malaga Airport are very good and at the moment there is a single asphalt runway which is 3,200 metres long. However as part of the current expansion palns there will be another runway in operation around 2010. There will also be an addition of a third terminal building which recent visitors will already be aware of due to the major construction work that has been ongoing for the last few years. The planned completion of the new Malaga Airport terminal building should be in 2008.

During the year 2006 Malaga International Airport received a staggering 13 million passengers, which is a huge increase from the 6.6 million that it used to receive back in 1996. Numbers will increase significantly when the new runway and terminal buildings are completed and it is estimated that numbers will be in the region of 20 million each year by 2015.

Malaga Airport is one of the main hubs for tourism in Spain as it serves flights to and from 60 different countries worldwide. To this day the main and busiest routes remain the UK and Ireland.

Being the forth largest Spanish airport investment in Malaga Airport is huge with some 890 million euros being invested between 2004 and 2010.

As part of the expansion of Malaga Airport there will be 3,000 new car parking spaces available to visitors.
