Marbella is probably one of europe’s most well know tourist destinations and was once the first choice holiday resort for the rich and famous with actors like Sean Connery, royalty like the Saudi royal family and even personalities like Simon Cowell all current or former property owners in Marbella.
Over the years Marbella has grown in size so that it now covers quite a large geographical area and incorporates a number of smaller resorts and towns that all fall within the Marbella postal district.
The key Marbella towns and resorts (from east to west) are;
San Pedro de Alcantara
Being one of the most important holiday resorts and business centres on the Costa del Sol it is no wonder that there is so much to do in the area. The beaches are some of the best on the Costa del Sol and there is no shortage of restaurants, bars and shops.
Apart from Puerto Banus, the main commercial centre in Marbella is La Cañada (pronounced La Canyarda). This is a large shopping centre with many of the usual Spanish high street names such as Massimo Dutti, Zara, Mango and Casa as well as some names no longer seen on the UK high streets lile C&A through to designer boutiques, furniture shops, shoe shops and even a Mark & Spencer (due to open late 2009).
If strolling along the streets outside in the sunshine is more your thing then the shopping in Marbella centro or the old town is better. Again all the usual high street names are there along with a number of designer boutiques and independent shops.
