Review of Hotel 100% Fun (100 Percent Fun)

We arrived at the Hotel 100% Fun at around noon parked easily in the ample car parking spaces available and checked in without any fuss. One thing you should bear in mind though is that the check in desk is located in the hotel's shop and this closes from 2pm until 5pm so either check in before 2pm or you will have to wait until after 5pm.

We were given our key and given directions to our room. Another thing to bear in mind so that you save another trip to reception is that there is a free safe in the room although you have to pay a 10 euro deposit. I would suggest that you do this when you check in.

The room was comfortable but not very big and the bathroom was a little on the small side but all in all we enjoyed a comfortable stay. There was no hair dryer in the room so again I would recommend that you take your own (if you need one). The room did have a television which offered a few Spanish and German stations and CNN in English. Our room (as do the majority) had a little terrace area which was ideal to relax in the sunshine.

The Hotel itself in situated just off of the main road so in the mornings and during the day you can hear the traffic "roaring" by. But at night there was very little traffic and did not cause any disturbance to sleep.

The Hotel has a small pool with sun loungers although I would expect this to get quite busy in the peak season. (We stayed from Saturday 14th June until Monday 16th June 2005).

Facilities at the Hotel when we stayed were adequate but not great. Our stay was considered off season so the bar was not open during the day which meant no cool beer around the pool. There is one Mexican / Texan restaurant at the Hotel but again this was not open for lunch. If like us you wanted an afternoon tipple and some lunch you need to do some exploring. Directly next door to the Hotel 100% Fun is the Hotel Tres Mares (the sister hotel to the hugely popular Dos Mares a few kilometers towards Tarifa on the beachfront). At Tres Mares we were able to get a simple lunch of either a baguette or a salad and a drink. (I would recommend the Mojitos, a cocktail of Bicardi, lime juice, fresh mint and brown sugar).

The Mexican restaurant was open in the evenings from around 8pm and although we dined there for both nights I would think that you would struggle to eat there each night. In the peak season there are a couple of restaurants within a short stroll but unfortunately they were not open when we stayed.

Directly opposite the Hotel is the road (I use this word loosely) that leads down to the Club Mistral water sports centre where you can hire windsurfing or kite boarding equipment and book lessons. At the club there is a beach bar but as we did not eat there I cannot comment on the food. The beach in front of Club Mistral was spectacular, miles and miles of white sand and light blue water just like a picture postcard.

Summary
The Hotel 100% Fun in Tarifa is a pleasant and comfortable hotel. The rooms are basic but adequate for a short stay. The facilities again are adequate but not great and our feelings were that some aspects could be improved upon. There is a "chill out" bar which looks fantastic but this was only open on the Saturday night. I would expect this to be open every night in the peak season and it really is ideal to relax with a drink or two and listen to the chill out and ambient sounds of Tarifa.

Food and Prices at the Mexican Restaurant at 100% Fun in Tarifa (2 persons)

To Start we had fried Jalapeno peppers and garlic prawns (never seen so many succulent prawns on one plate)
For main course we had chicken fajitas and chilie con carne
To Drink we had a 21 euro bottle of wine and a large bottle of still water and 1 baileys each after the meal (what boozers we were)
Total cost of the meal with tip 65 euros

The room rate when we stayed on 14th June was 85 euros per night including breakfast (buffet continental style).

Directions
From Malaga Airport you take the N340 / E15 heading to Cadiz / Algeciras. Follow this road past Torremolinos and Benalmadena. Near the Mijas exit the N340 splits off to the right or the toll road in straight on (in the summer I would recommend the toll road). If you take the N340 you basically stay on it and go through Fuengirola, along the coast past many smaller resorts, past Marbella, Puerto Banus, San Pedro (here you are very likely to get caught in a lot of traffic due to the bottle neck created by the many traffic lights). Keep going past Estepona and Sotogrande (here the toll road rejoins the N340). Keep on the N340 / E15 heading for Algeciras or Cadiz past the exits for La Linea and Gibraltar (this is where you would join / exit for Gibraltar Airport). Once through Algeciras you still want the N340 but it will now say Cadiz. You will start to go up and will see a spectacular view of Gibraltar on your left as well as the Africa and some big wind farms on your right. Eventually you will start to go down again. There is a turning on your left for Tarifa town, ignore this and keep heading along the coast where the road flattens out again. In a few kilometers you will pass the Hotel Dos Mares on your left, Hurricane Hotel on your left, Hotel Punta Sur on your right and many smaller hotels / restaurants. Once you pass a pharmacy on your right you will see a hotel called Tres Mares, directly after this is the Hotel 100% Fun.

Enjoy your stay...we did!
