Torremolinos

The 'package holiday' had to originate somewhere and Spain is proud to boast that Torremolinos gave the world the phenomenon Package Holidays.

Back in the 1970's Torremolinos bacame a popular haunt for European sun worshippers, especially those from the colder northern European countries. A family of hoteliers had the foresight to offer a little more than just a room for the night and this grew and developed into the package holiday. At the same time hotel after hotel was built in Torremolinos and it soon became one of the most popular European holiday destinations.

Thankfully these days Torremolinos is not a typical 'lager lout' Costa del Sol holiday destination it is a more peaceful and still hugely popular resort for couples or families. It has nice sandy beaches and lots of activities on offer from watersports through to aqua parks for the kids.

As with many of the resorts on this side of the Costa del Sol there is a long promenade where you can stroll between the beach and the shops on the other side of the road. If you happen to get thirstly during your stroll (very likely) or even hungry don't worry as there are simply hundreds of bars, chiringuitos (beach restaurants) and restaurants to choose from. Being right on the sea it is no surprise that some of the Costa del Sol's finest fish restaurants can be found in Torremolinos.

Torremolinos is the very first resort as you head west from Malaga Airport and is literally just a 5 to 10 minute car journey. This position is another reason ot still remains a very popular resort with many different hotels and accommodation on offer.
